The Deutsch-Porsche was the Porsche 908/02 short-tail chassis 018 from 1969. It made his race debut in the 1969 Nürburgring 1000km (P02 with Rolf Stommelen/Hans Herrmann).
In October 1969, the car was sold to Karl von Wendt -BG Racing Team. The car raced in the Buenos Aires 1000 km and the Buenos Aires 200 Miles in 1970 driven by Willi Kausen and Herbert Schultze. Karl von Wendt raced it later in the 1000 km Nürburgring and the Nurnberg 200 Miles.
The car was then sold to Guillermo Ortega and his Ecuador Marlboro Racing Team. He damaged the car in an accident in September 1972. It went back to the Porsche factory for repairs, but the damage was so extensive and costly to repair that Ortega put the remains up for sale. This was acquired by one Kurt Lotterschmid. He sold it to August Deutsch, who sent it to be repaired by Lehman-Tuning in Lenggries.
Deutsch then began to race the car through 1975 and 1976 as the ‘Deutsch-Spezial,’ known for its special bodywork designed by Felix Gmachmeier. The engine installed was said to be a 908 flat eight-cylinder 2997cc Porsche, though some interserie records show that in 1975 it had a Rover V8 3.5 engine before the Porsche unit was again installed.
The Deutsch-Porsche also ran in some Interserie races in 1976. Various drivers drove the car in 1975 and1976 – Lothar Schörg, HansPeter Plöderl, Kurt Lotterschmid. In the beginning of 1977, the car ran in practice at the Monza 500km on 23 April, but, although it qualified 32nd on the grid, it failed to make the start!
In 1977 Deutsch sold the car to H&R Racing Canada. It raced in several CanAm races, driven by Gary Hirsch and Rainer Brezinha.
The car returned to Europe and came into the possession of Bill Bradley Racing. He removed the Gmachmeier bodywork and asked Paddy O’Grady from Porsche to install again its more conventional 908-style body.
In 1982 it was sold to Richard Attwood and Mike Ostromoff, who raced the car again in the British Supersports until 1987 and in some interserie races.
In 1987 it was briefly owned by Frank Gallogly. He sold it to Bob Jordan from the uSA in 2000. Then the car appeared in some vintage Racing events.
It was bought by Robert Fink. It was seen at the Spa Classic 2014 and at Goodwood and LeMans Classic 2018.
