FORD GT40 CHASSIS P1001

Ford GT40 P1001 was first prepared as a look-alike of the Shelby's team cars and was presented at the New York show and the 1965 World's fair. Then it was sent back to FAV in England to be prepared as a race car. The Essex Wire team got it in loan for the 24 hours of Le Mans 1966 (#60, J.Ickx- J.Neerpash, DNF/engine). It was Jacky Ickx debut at Le Mans.

Sold to 4 different owners from 1966 to 1970. First it was entered under Bernard White Racing. It raced in august 1966 with Alan Rees in Brands Hatch and in Zeltweg by Innes Ireland before being shipped to South-Africa and Rhodesia for David Hobbs and Mike Hailwood. In 1967 it was for Sid Taylor Racing/Charles Lucas (see photo's below)  for races in the UK ( with sometimes Denny Hulme behind the wheel). In 1968 it sold to and raced by John Raeburn in some endurance races and in 1969 the car was for Malaya Garage.

In 1970 it came into private ownership and to John Lees, a collector in Ireland. It is After reconverted as a road car it was restored to its original Essex Wire livery from the 1965 LeMans race.
The car is rarely seen on historic events. Thanks to SBR engineering, it was prepared for a run at Goodwood 2023 (with David Brabham).
