FORD GT40 Chassis P1004

Production in 1965 by Shelby Racing . The car made his debute at the 24 hours Le Mans 1965 for RRC Walker Racing Teamwith an 5.3 liter engine during practice and a 4.7 L engine for the race. Drivers were Bob Bondurant and Umberto Maglioli. They had to retire in lap 29 with a head gasket failure.

After the retirement in Le Mans, the car did a round trip Shelby celebration tour in the USA, the car was put into storage by FAV. It is possible that parts were used as spare parts for other cars.

At the end of 1967, the FIA restricted prototypes to 3-litre engine capacity but created a new category for 5-litre Competition Sports Cars and the old GT40 was ideal for this category. The P1004 chassis was pulled out of storage by FAV by the John Weyer Automotive Gulf Team, now responsible for the Ford program. P1004 was built up and resprayed in Gulf colours  into a new car with chassis number P1084 because of the upgrade.This car went on to race in Spa-Francorchamps in May 1968 for the 1000km race, with Paul Watkins and David Hobbs taking it to fourth place.

The car was sold in 1970 to Rodney Clark and raced in the 70-ties by Paul Weldon.The car was again put into storage but bought by Martin Colville in 1980 and started racing again. The car crashed in Silverstone but was rebuild with an extra bulge in the drivers door to accommodate the owner. After that it became parted of Anthony Bamford’s collection.The car was on sale by Duncan Hamilton. Seen at Goodwood 2007 and LM Classic 2018 (#21,  Roald Goethe / Stuart Hall  - Class: Plateau 4)
