Chassis P1002

Ford GT40 Chassis P1002

P1002 is the first competition GT40 sold to a private team.

It was entered by Fred English in 1965 and 66 with a light blue livery. In 1965, driven by Richard Attwood, the car finished second in the Guards Trophy Mallory Park and third at Silverstone. Later in the year, Roy Salvadori ran it in two races.
For the '66 season it received a new standard bonnet. Innes Ireland and Chris Amon raced this car in the 1000km Monza and 500 miles Brands Hatch (2 times DNF). Ireland had an accident at the Nürburgring; the car was not accepted for Le Mans. In august, Innes Ireland finished fourth at the Eagle Trophy Brands Hatch.

P1002 was ten registered for road use with the famous "FEL IC" number plate. It was sold to David Prophet in august 1967. Resprayed in metallic grey with a gold stripe, it was modified progressively in 1967/68 to look like Paul Hawkins AMGT2 lightweight GT40. Prophet raced the car in England and in South Africa in 1967. He did the same in 1968 and added some European outings to it, like the 1000 km Spa and Nurburgring ( with R.Bond).
After the Springbok Series, P1002 was sold on its return to J. A. Pearce (UK)who repainted it bright yellow and kept it for two years. He sold it to selling it to Brian Classic Manchester, along with the 112 and 1014 cars. The car was restored and got sprayed in dark green.
